Oxnard Dental Implants

If you have lost a tooth for any reason, it is important that you don’t ignore it. Dental implants can be used to replace the tooth root, and will hold a replacement tooth which can help to restore your smile’s appearance as well as the ability to speak and chew properly. This advanced dental technology has been used to help many of our patients to once again have a bright, confident smile once again. For more information about dental implants, continue reading our handy guide below.

How will dental implants benefit me?

Unlike many tooth replacement options, such as a dental bridge, dental implants do not require a large portion of the healthy tooth enamel of adjacent teeth to be removed in order to place them. Dental implants also help protect you from serious issues such as gum and bone loss. This often occurs when a tooth has been lost. These implants have a very high success rate, and there is usually very little risk of complications.

Are there different kinds of implants?

Today there are three different types of dental implants that can be used to replace a missing tooth. An endosteal implant is the preferred type, and is surgically placed into your bone in order to add stability and provide support for dentures and dental bridges. Superiosteal implants rest on top of the bone, and have a small post that sticks up through the gums. This kind of dental implant can be used for patients who no longer have enough bone structure to support a traditional implant.

Miniature Dental Implants

The third type of dental implants are known as mini dental implants. These can be placed in about an hour, and are used to help patients who wear dentures eat, speak, and smile more comfortably. This type of implant helps to hold the denture securely in place without the need for messy adhesive creams or strips. There is no need to cut into the gums, and no stitches are required for this type of implant; they can usually be placed in a single visit with little or no discomfort.

Are dental implants right for me?

Nearly any patient who is missing a tooth will benefit from the placement of dental implants. Additionally, if you wear dentures (partial or full), Dental implants can greatly increase your quality and enjoyment of life by providing you with more security and stability.
